Included in Conde Nast Traveller’s list of best hotels in the Maldives, voted the‘Indian Ocean's Leading Luxury Resort’ and the ‘Indian Ocean's Leading Villa Resort & Spa’ at the 2014 World Travel Awards, Ayada Maldives is a private island resort offering a truly luxurious retreat with a genuine Maldivian style. Set in the relatively unexplored Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll in the south of the country – just a few kilometres above the equator – the luxury resort offers 122 spacious villas and suites, all with private pools, butler service and thoughtful five-star detailing. Traditional thatched-roof water-villas stand on stilts over the resort’s peaceful lagoon, while beach villas offer absolute privacy amid tropical greenery alongside powder-soft palm-lined white beaches. Food lovers can explore the six restaurants, while those seeking complete relaxation will find their haven in the large spa which boasts a Turkish Hammam and eight private treatment villas.
The resort is noted for its gardens and tropical greenery and is ringed by a pristine coral reef where dolphins are frequent visitors. The active can explore the area on a host of excursions while at the resort they can play tennis or badminton, take up watersports, learn yoga, Pilates or Zumba or simply hit the 24-hour gym. Outstanding diving and snorkeling opportunities surround the island on reefs that have barely been visited by humans while some of the Maldives’ best surfing breaks are just a quick speedboat journey away. Weddings take place just before sunset in one of the most beautiful private wedding chapels in the Maldives set in a tree-lined garden, or on the beach under a gazebo draped with flowing material

Zero Degree restaurant and bar is where you’ll find poolside dining at its finest: a simple yet wide menu of international dishes that addresses all cravings from crisp fresh salads to European, Asian and middle-eastern dishes all served by the pool. Those who come early enough can book one of the four tables that are actually in the pool and dine barefoot in the water. Shaded dining tables under a thatched roof await later diners. Other favorite dining destinations are the poolside cabanas, swathed in fabric and of course for the ultimate sun lovers, the sun beds in the pool. At night, thanks to its incredible LED lighting display, the pool transforms into a sparkling water wonderland filled with a myriad of tiny stars, reflecting the incredible night skies above as the bar becomes the social place to be with live music, DJ and special events such as open air movies enjoyed from the comfort of an inflatable lounger in the pool itself. The bar tenders work their magic from an enticing list of cocktails and libations while guests can dance the night away on the dance floor or even go for a midnight swim should the fancy take them.
Seating 33 diners under its thatched roof and 40 diners al fresco, Zero Degree is open daily from 09.00 until 18,00 (lunch menu from 12.00 – 17.00)
Named after its beautiful over-water location where the warmth of the sun is tempered by a refreshing breeze, this stylish restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and offers gourmets a tempting menu of modern European dishes. With regular seasonal changes to the menu, items such as grilled seafood, home-made pasta and fine steaks are perennial favorites.
One of the resort’s most romantic restaurants, the thatched-roof open-air restaurant stands on stilts over the lagoon, with sophisticated white muslin curtains framing the views. By day the endless shades of blue of the shimmering ocean enchant while at night the restaurant transforms into in a magical candlelit paradise where mysterious fish swim in flood-lit waters below.
This far-flung outpost of the Ottoman empire graces the island with fine Turkish teas and coffee presented in the traditional manner in filigree silver- service or tulip-shaped glassware, as it has been for centuries in Turkey. Here Ayada Maldives showcases the beauty and unique experience of sipping authentically brewed Turkish coffee and specialty teas in a lounge inspired by a traditional café in Turkey, complete with Ottoman style furnishings, intricate light fixtures and low seating. This welcoming lounge is a perfect spot for a private meeting or a relaxed drink with friends. For a soothing afternoon ritual look no further than chef’s modern interpretation of afternoon tea, which brings a touch of Maldivian and Turkish flavors into the setting. In the evenings, a choice of aromatic shisha water pipes (narghile) adds elegance. The décor, with its sand-floor and thatched roof with typically Turkish carved wooden furniture, lends itself to photographic interest, especially in the evening when the ‘chandelier’ of hundreds of tiny Turkish style lanterns light up the lounge.
The Ottoman Lounge seats 16 guests indoors and opens from 13.00 until 22.00 daily

Set on the beach near the main reception overlooking the iconic Ayada lighthouse this elegant restaurant has a peaceful central reflecting pool and is surrounded by lush tropical greenery. Lovers of the finer things in life will adore this tiny over-water open-air cheese and wine bar set 100m over the lagoon. Truly an ‘island of joy’, this is home to the island’s fine wines cellar where oenophiles will enjoy perusing the eclectic wine list, while the resident bartender can suggest the perfect tipple from a range of fine label cognacs, premium whiskies and other delectable bottled digestifs and aperitifs. The collection of specialty imported, hand selected cheeses make this the perfect venue for open air pre- or post- dinner relaxation over a fine cigar from the well-stocked humidor. Diners can choose sit up at the bar, walk through the chilled wine-fridge or simply enjoy the star-filled Maldivian night skies from seats carved into the shape of dhonis, a traditional Maldivian sailing boat.
